TIBET
Tibet, a rich and beautiful land, is located at the main part of
Qinghal-Tibet plateau, south-west frontier of China, at an altitude
over 4,000m, above sea level. Tibet posses more than fifty peaks
above 7,000m. among which eleven are over 8,000m. Tibet borders with
Schuan, Yunnan, Qinghal and Xinjiang: to the south continuous to
India, Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan and Burma, and bounded by Kashmir on
the west. The Tibet Autonomous Region with a population of two
million, mainly of Tibetans, and an area of1.2 million sq.km. Tibet
is rich in natural resources and owns a vast expanse of landforms.
People living on this land have been creating a glorious culture
since ancient time. There has a long history, majestic mountains and
rivers, regular customs and habits, wonderful natural landscapes
with monks clad in robes and yellow hats are seen everywhere. If you
were to set foot on this virgin land, to follow the steps of
pilgrims dating from ancient time, to visit the great temples and
monasteries, to enjoy the unique culture, to have sips of waters
from those limpid rivers and lakes, to sight the different customs
and to trek around those mighty snow-clad peaks, you would surely be
intoxicated with their wonders.Tibet, the vary name evokes feelings
of awe and mystery. A land of ancient Buddhist culture, awesome
landscapes, artistic monasteries, exotic cities, hidden valleys and
centuries-old caravan trails,Tibet offers a totally different
experience known as the roof of the world, it is the destination for
the ultimate thrill-seekers.
Kathmandu is the natural gateway to this amazing land. Once the
center of the ancient trade route connecting India and Tibet,
Kathmandu is perfectly positioned for its modem role as the hub of
adventure tourism in the Himalaya.
Fine transport connections exist between Kathmandu and Lhasa, the
capital of the Tibetan Autonomous Region of China. You can go
overland on a scenic highway that retraces the old caravan trail or
takes a spectacular flight over the Himalaya.
The one hour flight to Lhasa is an adventure in itself. Taking off
Kathmandu the plane flies alongside the eastern Himalayas as far as
Mt. Everest and then turns north with gigantic snow peaks filling up
the left hand side windows. Soon, the mountains drop away and you
are gliding across the barren Tibetan plateau to touch down at
Gonggar Airport, 85k.m. from Lhasa.
Getting There
The highway from Kathmandu to Lhasa crosses the Himalayan range
north of Kathmandu and then turns east to follow the old caravan
route over the Tibetan plateau.
China Southwest Airlines offers twice weekly Boeing 757 services
between Kathmandu and Lhasa.
General Information
Altitude And Health: Altitude sickness is the effect of the thin
air at great heights. Travellers to Tibet may suffer some discomfort
like breathlessness and headaches before becoming acclimatized. Many
hotels keep bottled oxygen for emergencies.
Season & Clothing
The popular time of the year to visit Tibet is May through
October. Height-weight clothes are recommended during this season.
Warm clothing is required from November to April.
Visa
All visitors entering Tibet should require special travel
permit. This can be obtained in joining to organized tours through
recognized travel agencies, we arrange Tibet/ China visa. If the
visitors have the Chinese visa of their home town will not be valid
to enter into Tibet.
